American Gelbvieh Association is the official registry for Gelbvieh cattle in the United States. Gelbvieh World is the official publication of the American Gelbvieh Association, serving AGA members and commercial producers with industry information. We have a two-person magazine staff, and AGA has 10 people on staff. Everyone wears more than one hat to get everything done.

American Gelbvieh Association and American Gelbvieh Junior Association offer a paid summer internship to work with junior programs. The internship also offers the opportunity to work with the Gelbvieh World magazine staff to write articles or develop graphic design skills.

Seedstock EDGE is the official publication of the National Swine Registry. Published nine times a year, Seedstock EDGE is the primary communication between NSR and its members. The National Swine Registry (NSR) formed in 1994 as a result of the consolidation of the American Yorkshire Club, the Hampshire Swine Registry and the United Duroc Swine Registry. In January 1998, the American Landrace Association joined the National Swine Registry. These four breed organizations are located in one central office in West Lafayette, Ind.

NSR offers two summer internships – one NSR Communications internship and one National Junior Swine Association internship. The NSR Communications intern’s duties will include developing concepts and design for advertisements and editorial content for Seedstock EDGE. The intern will also contribute to the design, layout and content of two NSR newsletters, “For the Record” and “The Pinnacle,” and will assist with writing and distributing press releases about NSR events. Responsibilities for the NJSA intern will include: assisting with junior shows and events, assisting with preparing “The Pinnacle” and other promotional materials; handling in-office correspondence with NJSA members; preparing for events at the fall regional shows; and other duties as assigned. Applications are typically available in November and are due Feb. 1.

Certified Angus Beef LLC is a branded beef company that works with all segments of the industry from seedstock producer to consumer. Our Industry Information Division works to stimulate a quality focus and provide cattlemen and women with resources to help them reach their high quality beef production goals.

We offer a summer and school-year internship, open to junior and senior students. Interns write news releases and feature stories about feedlots, cow-calf producers and university research, among other things. Students are responsible for the entire process, from setting up interviews to sending the final versions out to media. Interested applicants should be self-starters who are open to direction and possess writing, interviewing and photography skills. Open a mentoring dialog with Miranda or Steve by phone or e-mail. Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) is a trade organization representing the business interests of members at both the state and federal levels. Voluntary dues dollars paid by producers are used for programs that benefit KLA members in the areas of legislative representation, regulatory assistance, legal troubleshooting, communications and the advancement of youth. Members of the association are involved in all segments of the livestock industry, including cow-calf production, cattle feeding, swine, dairy and sheep.

The American Angus Association is a member-based beef breed registry. The Association provides programs and services to its members and commercial cattle producers.

The communications department offers two summer internships. Both involve writing, photography and design. One is more show focused and one is more industry focused. Deadline for application is Feb. 1, to Shelia.



American Hereford Association (AHA)/Hereford Publications Inc. (HPI)

The AHA keeps the records of the Hereford breed and promotes the interests of its breeders. HPI produces Hereford World, the official Hereford breed publication, as well as providing a number of other communication services through its Creative Services department.

HPI and the AHA communication team offer a summer communications internship for a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in agricultural journalism or agricultural communications. The AHA youth activities department offers a summer internship for a college student interested in assisting with planning and execution of junior shows and leadership events. Certified Hereford Beef (CHB) LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the AHA, offers a summer internship for a college student 21 years of age. The intern’s primary responsibility is to help account managers with the sales and marketing of CHB®. Deadlines to apply are typically in February/March.
